Our Orthopedic Trauma unit, equipped with 28 beds and Central Tele monitoring capabilities, specializes in providing care for patients with diverse medical-surgical conditions, particularly in orthopedic trauma. Our team addresses a variety of injuries, including those from traumatic falls, vehicular accidents, gunshot wounds, and more. Nurses in this unit frequently utilize various medical devices, such as chest tubes, NG tubes, skeletal traction, external fixators, and tracheostomy tubes, among others. The leadership team comprises a Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, and ADT nurse, all of whom have progressed from staff nursing roles within our organization. The Nurse Manager brings a wealth of clinical expertise and has been instrumental in leading this unit since its inception in 2020, fostering a supportive and educational environment.

Position Overview

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse exhibits comprehensive knowledge of therapeutic patient care, patient advocacy, clinical pathways, and team dynamics, serving as a resource for both registered nurses and support staff. Collaborates with leadership to cultivate and implement the culture, vision, mission, and objectives of Spartanburg Medical Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Experience

  • Novice to Experienced Nurse.

Licensure/Certifications

  • Current R.N. licensure in South Carolina.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS/ENPC certifications.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare team members to establish patient priorities and treatment plans.
  • Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Seeks assistance as needed to ensure successful nursing interventions.
  • Engages in hourly rounding and bedside shift reporting.
  • Demonstrates competency with all new equipment and procedures.
  • Provides clinical mentorship to students and ancillary staff.
  • Completes all required hospital and unit orientation programs.
  • Develops a plan for ongoing professional growth.
  • Ensures adherence to all clinical expectations and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies appropriate standards of care and collaborative clinical pathways to guide patient care.
  • Complies with established policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes the need to develop or revise policies related to specialized patient populations.
  • Participates in unit-based committees.
  • Prioritizes nursing interventions for assigned patients.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients' medical histories, admitting diagnoses, and physician orders.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing practice and theory.
  • Ensures continuity of care through effective decision-making and quality patient care.
  • Documents all aspects of patient care in accordance with established charting procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
