Job Summary

This position performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician's order and departmental policy. The ideal candidate will possess skills necessary to treat patients of all ages, including infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The Respiratory Therapist will consult with physicians and other personnel and make recommendations on treatment as appropriate. All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician's order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.
  • Able to initiate, monitor, and manage patients requiring all types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
  • Able to initiate and manage all types of airways and associated equipment.
  • Accurately and completely documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures and tasks and provides patient and family education as appropriate.
  • Effectively communicates with all members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows.
  • Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.
  • Acts as a good steward of resources, including supplies, time/productivity, etc.

Requirements

Associate's Degree - Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program by an accredited school. In lieu of associate degree will consider diploma and/or experience. South Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner license. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). BLS. NBRC (credentials must be maintained). Other certifications dependent on work unit: NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPS. ACLS required within the first year for adult care areas. NRP and PALS required in the Children's Hospital prior to working independently in the NICU and PICU.
