Position Overview

Arlington County is looking for dedicated Seasonal Leaf Collection Operators to assist in our leaf collection initiatives during the fall season. These roles are integral to our operations within the Solid Waste Bureau (SWB).

The Solid Waste Bureau is responsible for a variety of essential services, including residential brush collection, street sweeping, mulch deliveries, and supporting the County's leaf collection and snow removal efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

Leaf Collection Truck Operators - $24.00 per hour
  • Operating straight trucks with joystick controls for efficient leaf collection in residential areas;
  • Conducting thorough pre and post-trip inspections of vehicles;
  • Utilizing maps and GPS for navigation;
  • Providing direction to crew members regarding the leaf collection process.
Leaf Collection Crew Members - $19.00 per hour
  • Engaging in physical labor as part of a team to collect leaves and yard waste from residents and public spaces using tools such as rakes and pitchforks;
  • Working closely with trucks to gather leaves effectively;
  • Managing traffic flow around collection vehicles.
Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:

For Leaf Collection Truck Operators: A valid Class B or A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and a minimum of six months experience operating large trucks or similar commercial vehicles.

For Leaf Collection Crew Members: Ability to follow instructions and perform physical tasks for extended periods.

Additional Information:

These positions require adherence to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a secure work environment. Work is primarily conducted outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to noise, dust, and other elements.

Work Schedule:
  • This is a seasonal role, requiring availability for approximately six weeks.
  • Work hours are Monday to Saturday, from 7 AM to 5 PM, totaling 60 hours per week, with overtime compensation for hours exceeding 40.
