Job Overview

The Charter Township of Shelby Parks, Recreation, & Maintenance Department is seeking applications for a Supplemental Facilities Maintenance Worker. This role requires availability for approximately 30 hours per week, with an hourly compensation of $22.85, without additional benefits. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license for operating Township vehicles and equipment. The driver's license must be submitted with the application.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of six months of relevant experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or facilities maintenance is necessary.

Educational Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED is required.

Licensing/Certification: Candidates should be able to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment if transitioning to a full-time position.

Supervision: This position reports directly to the Department Head or a higher classification employee.

Supervisory Duties: There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this role.

Physical Demands: The job requires the ability to walk, crawl, climb, reach, and maneuver as necessary to fulfill job duties.

Work Environment: The primary work location is outdoors.

Job Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the PRM Supervisor, the worker will perform general maintenance, repairs, and physical labor on various Township properties and facilities, utilizing a range of vehicles and mechanical equipment. Training may include performing some duties of a Maintenance Person I.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Opening and closing Township parks and facilities daily.
  • Conducting routine park maintenance, including trash removal, tree trimming, mowing, landscaping, and minor repairs on park equipment.
  • Performing building maintenance tasks such as trash removal, HVAC maintenance, painting, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Executing snow removal operations for parking lots, sidewalks, and building entrances.
  • Maintaining accurate work orders and documentation for repairs and installations.
  • Operating heavy equipment as necessary, with potential certification.
  • Utilizing power tools and various maintenance equipment.
  • Setting up and cleaning up for Township meetings and events.
  • Completing related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Applicants should possess the following:

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with tools, materials, and equipment for mechanical, plumbing, landscaping, electrical, and carpentry maintenance.
  • Skills: Proficiency in operating power equipment and maintenance machinery, alongside strong technical knowledge and mechanical aptitude.
  • Abilities: Capability to work collaboratively with colleagues and the public, perform various maintenance tasks, and manage physical labor involving lifting and carrying weights of at least 50 pounds.
