As a Pharmacy Technician II at The University of Chicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial, you will play a vital role in the medication use process. You will work under the direction of the pharmacy operations manager and the professional work direction of a pharmacist to process medication orders, prepare, and assist in the dispensing of medications. Your responsibilities will include coordinating the timely processing and delivery of medication orders, and performing specific functions required in the unit dose, parenteral, and packaging areas.
Key Responsibilities- Transport medications, IVs, TPNs, chemotherapy, medication cassettes/patient-specific carts, and other pharmacy supplies and equipment to nursing units and clinics.
- Add patient-specific and common stock medications to Pyxis machines located in patient care areas as defined by daily tasks/positions.
- Return discontinued and outdated medications from Pyxis to the Pharmacy.
- Fills code trays, medication kits, and emergency boxes as needed.
- Perform sterile hazardous and non-hazardous compounding at inpatient as well as the infusion pharmacies as scheduled per manager/director.
- Perform minimum automation troubleshooting of Pyxis, dosage, and other pharmacy systems.
- Perform patient and departmental charging of medications in the system as needed.
- Assist in the training of new technician employees in their work areas as scheduled by the manager/director.
- Check daily outdates for medications expiring in Pyxis and bring them back to the main pharmacy for appropriate disposal.
- Rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy department to achieve pharmaceutical care for the patient.
- Fills first doses, STAT meds, and restocks patient-specific medications from the carousels.
- Perform monthly nursing unit, clinic, and pharmacy area inspections as directed.
- Maintain work areas (IV Room, UD Area, Manufacturing area, storerooms) by restocking and cleaning as needed.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of one-year pharmacy experience.
- Must hold current valid license as a pharmacy technician in the State of Illinois.
- Must hold a current valid pharmacy technician certification, except if grandfathered in.
- General hospital experience as a licensed pharmacy technician is preferred.
This role is a full-time position with a night shift schedule, working 10pm-6:30am, 5 days a week, and every other weekend. You will be scheduled to work 100% at the Harvey campus.
