Under the direct guidance of the healthcare provider, the individual will be tasked with patient evaluation and care, along with maintaining accurate documentation.
This role requires a foundational understanding of both specialty and primary care, enabling the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
The position is pivotal in coordinating care to ensure that high-quality, compassionate patient services are delivered.The individual will oversee patient management at various office locations and serve as a liaison with other departments and organizations.
Responsibilities may include ordering medical, pharmacy, and office supplies necessary for patient care.Compliance with all policies and procedures of MyMichigan Health, as well as adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations, and other relevant regulatory standards, is essential.
The role may also involve training new employees, students, and temporary staff as required.The clinical staff member will provide patient education, assist with specialty care modalities, manage symptoms, be available for emergencies, monitor compliance, and educate patients and families regarding medications, including their purposes and potential side effects, while ensuring continuity of care with other healthcare providers.
General office duties such as typing, filing, answering phones, and operating office equipment may also be required. The specific responsibilities outlined in this job description may vary slightly based on the assigned practice. Your immediate supervisor will clarify your specific duties.Key Responsibilities:
(30%)* Manage all incoming calls, schedule urgent or emergent appointments, and relay test results. Provide support, direction, and referrals for patients needing consultations, testing, and insurance pre-certification documentation.
(30%)* Welcome patients and their families, perform routine pre-examination tasks including vital signs, and accurately assess and document both objective and subjective data regarding the presenting condition. Maintain an accurate patient record through tasks such as orders reconciliation and secure messaging (if available). Conduct medication reconciliation, document allergy reactions, and process refills within the scope of certification.
(20%)* Assist the provider during examinations and procedures.
(20%)* Prepare and sanitize the patient area, set up necessary equipment, and ensure cleanliness and organization post-procedure. Dispose of contaminated materials and sterilize medical instruments.
Additional Duties:
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments as required within the scope of practice.
Perform patient care tasks including injections, minor dressing changes, and blood specimen collection.
In certain practices, may be required to demonstrate proficiency in assisting with procedures such as electrocardiograms (EKG), Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT), Ankle Brachial Pressure Index (ABI), and Non-stress Tests (NST).
Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for both patients and colleagues. If applicable, travel to satellite clinics may be required.
Understand necessary computer functions in the office setting, including MAPS, MCIR Practice Management, Electronic Medical Records, LIS, Emageon, dictation systems, and other relevant programs to assist providers and staff.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and uphold patient rights in accordance with established procedures and in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
May be required to perform clerical tasks such as completing insurance forms, correspondence, arranging hospital admissions, answering phones, and updating/filing patient medical records.
Maintain a systematic approach for accurate documentation and coding in the medical record as per policy. Participate in annual reviews for quality and completeness as necessary.
Address the age-specific needs of the population served in accordance with departmental standards and policies/procedures, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and peer feedback.
