Role Objective:
The primary objective of this role is to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and community members to fulfill the responsibilities associated with early childhood programs, addressing the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development of children and their families. This position also includes ensuring safe transportation for children and their guardians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Lead Educator in designing, executing, and assessing daily classroom activities.
- Assist in maintaining consistent supervision and instruction for all children.
- Ensure that all children are within visual and auditory range at all times.
- Take charge of the children in the absence of the Lead Educator.
- Help the Lead Educator and families in meeting the daily needs and routines of the children.
- Ensure accurate attendance records are maintained, including daily sign-in and sign-out procedures.
- Contribute to a safe and healthy environment by sharing responsibilities for cleanliness and orderliness in the classroom, including tasks such as sanitizing toys and cleaning facilities.
- Assist in meal preparation and cleanup, engaging parents and children in nutritious food practices.
- Support daily personal hygiene routines for children, including diapering, feeding, and hand-washing.
- Provide appropriate care for children with disabilities.
- Encourage parental involvement in monthly program activities.
- Participate in program events, contributing relevant educational insights.
- Provide feedback for parent-staff conferences and child development tracking.
- Utilize available resources for technical support and assistance.
- Maintain open and positive communication with families.
- Assist in providing childcare during evening educational sessions for parents.
- Supervise children and adults during transportation.
- Ensure proper installation and use of child safety restraints.
- Assist with the boarding and disembarking of children.
- Support emergency evacuation procedures and drills.
- Implement positive behavior guidance techniques.
- Ensure the bus is supervised at all times when children are present.
- Conduct post-trip inspections to confirm all children have exited the bus.
- Assist in distributing take-home materials.
Educational Background:
- High school diploma or equivalent; must enroll in an Early Childhood Education Certificate or CDA program, or a college degree program leading to an Associate degree.
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and Food Handling.
- Preferred experience in a preschool setting and knowledge of Early Childhood Development.
- Head Start experience is advantageous.
- Community service involvement is preferred.
- Experience in multicultural environments is a plus.
