Job DescriptionPosition Summary

The Lead Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting the physician and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and physician access. Provides clinical direction to staff members to ensure that patients receive compassionate, effective, and efficient high-quality clinical care.

The Lead Registered Nurse functions as the liaison between patients, staff, physicians, and leadership and is responsible for ensuring adherence to evidence-based clinical decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintains efficient patient flow
  2. Appropriately demonstrates telephone triage protocols and documents in EHR
  3. Schedules appointments appropriately and accurately according to department guidelines
  4. Employs appropriate and timely use of Tasking in EHR
  5. Monitors clinical inboxes in EHR
  6. Appropriately enters orders as delegate
  7. Effectively communicates problems, concerns, or issues to the Office Supervisor/Manager appropriately and promptly
  8. Facilitates transition of care to UCC/Hospital
  9. Quality Assurance
  10. Assures all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting care
  11. Maintain a working knowledge of Emergency Response system
  12. Appropriately adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste
  13. Checks and maintains point of care testing logs, medication refrigerator logs, and emergency equipment in accordance with policy, and is responsible for problem resolution
  14. Clinical Practice
  15. Assist with proper preparation for patient visits and prepares pertinent information needed for patient visits
  16. Provides patient education
  17. Delivers direct patient care within the scope of licensure and in accordance with SMG policy
  18. Collects lab specimens according to departmental guidelines. Accurately labels specimens.
  19. Obtains vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required. Documents appropriately in EHR
  20. Administers injections according to appropriate protocol. Documents injections accurately in EHR
  21. Reviews and updates medication list in EHR. Demonstrates understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures. Accurately and completely documents known allergies in EHR
  22. Provides referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR
  23. Assist providers with procedures as needed
  24. Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  25. Assist the physician and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and physician access
  26. Prioritizes patient care by implementing physician orders and nursing procedures
  27. Function as the liaison between patients, staff, physicians, and leadership
  28. Demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules
  29. Leads/participates in daily clinical huddles
  30. Other job duties as required
  31. Additional Lead Position Responsibilities
  32. Coordinates with Supervisory staff to ensure schedules are entered appropriately in scheduling program. Work collaboratively with Office Supervisor/Clinical Coordinator to provide adequate staff coverage
  33. Responsible for oversight of medical and office supplies and ordering of supplies, including supplies for in-office procedures
  34. Engages with leadership staff to assess clinical skills and competency
  35. Escalates concerns and issues timely and appropriately to leadership
  36. Responsible for addressing and resolving patient complaints/issues. Communicate issues and resolution to leadership. Bring concerns expressed by providers to Office Supervisor/Clinical Practice Manager
  37. Notify leadership of any potential health and safety hazards in the office and make corrective actions
  38. Assist with initiating and follow through on Facilities/IT work orders related to the office setting
  39. Functions as a trainer for onboarding of nurses and coordinates the onboarding of clinical staff
  40. Responsible for completing staff's clinical competency checklist
  41. Ensure appropriate workflow is being followed and implemented
  42. Serves as a liaison for clinical decision-making
  43. Collaborate with providers and non-clinical leadership to identify office efficiencies and optimum patient care
