About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Machinist Specialist to join our team at Westinghouse Electric Company. As a key member of our manufacturing operations team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining complex machine tools, ensuring high-quality precision machined components are produced in accordance with engineering drawings and written instructions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain a variety of machine tools, including CNC machines, to produce high-quality precision machined components.
  • Set up and operate machine tools, including loading and unloading parts, to ensure efficient production and high-quality results.
  • Determine the need for and fabricate jigs and tooling to support machining operations.
  • Practice proper housekeeping and observe all safety and criticality procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Responsible for quality of work during the machining process to ensure required tolerances have been met.
  • Practice 5S principles and observe all safety policies to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Load or coordinate the loading of machining centers to ensure efficient production.
  • Run multiple machines at the same time, based on proximity, qualifications, and training, to maximize production efficiency.
  • Modify and/or troubleshoot machining programs as needed, based on machine qualification and training, to ensure optimal production results.
  • Set up machine tools and components or castings to ensure the proper machining of the part, component, or casting to print specifications.
  • General duties as assigned by management/supervision, including receiving direction from supervisor or team coordinator.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or recognized equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience and operational proficiency as a Westinghouse – Newington Machinist B or recognized equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of CNC "G" codes.
  • Thorough knowledge of tooling, fixtures, and machine set-up to achieve quality precision machined components.
  • Familiar with and practice 5S principles.
  • Able to perform highly technical and close tolerance work to engineering drawings and written instructions.
  • Able to operate any of the machine tool types with a minimal amount of training.
  • Able to determine the need for and fabricate jigs and tooling.
  • Able to speak, read, and write in English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of programming is preferred.
