Job Summary:

A Medical Assistant plays a vital role in providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This position involves caring for patients with acute and chronic needs in the Wellington OBGYN Clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide general administrative and patient care tasks in accordance with the Intermountain MGPSMA Scope of Practice and other established policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-disciplinary care team.
  • Prepare patients for healthcare providers while maintaining a positive and caring attitude.
  • Coordinate care, administer care, and document appropriately.
  • Ensure patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights by observing HIPAA regulations.
  • Obtain and record patient information, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, current medications, medical history, and chief complaint.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow-up as appropriate to ensure completion of testing.
  • Communicate test results to patients and establish a plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the provider.
  • Document patient plans of care, tests, and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
  • Prepare, clean, and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; stock patient exam rooms while maintaining cleanliness and organization, and dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
  • Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
  • Escalate non-routine issues, questions, and/or concerns to the practice manager and/or healthcare provider(s).
  • Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abide by service behavior standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current BLS Certification is required upon hire or within 60 days of hire upon approval.
  • Successful completion of initial MA onboarding within 90 days, annual skills fair, and in-services for site-specific tasks is required.
  • Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Preferred: Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program, successful completion of an Accredited National Certification Exam for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), and one (1) year Medical Assistant experience.

Work Environment:

The Medical Assistant will work in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. The position involves caring for patients with acute and chronic needs in the Wellington OBGYN Clinic.

Physical Requirements:

The Medical Assistant will be required to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors will require the ability to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers will be required to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. The position will also involve lifting and utilizing full range of movement to transfer patients, bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, and walking and assisting with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
