This position is integral to the Lunar Permanence division. To advance Blue Origin's vision of establishing a sustainable human presence in space, we are constructing the essential infrastructure for transporting personnel and cargo from Earth to the Moon.

As a Lead Software Quality Assurance Engineer within the Lunar Permanence team, you will play a pivotal role in the execution of programs for both crewed and uncrewed lunar missions. The software solutions developed will empower Lunar Permanence vehicles with capabilities to deliver unprecedented crew and cargo to the lunar surface. This role involves providing technical leadership in software testing and validation processes. You will analyze requirements, collaborate with stakeholders, formulate test strategies, and engage in activities to ensure the reliability and safety of vehicle flight software. Your contributions will significantly influence the future of space exploration, necessitating your commitment to excellence and safety in spaceflight.

We seek a candidate who can leverage their technical acumen, leadership abilities, and dedication to quality to enhance the safety of human spaceflight. A genuine passion for our mission and vision is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical lead for the software verification and testing team.
  • Design and execute comprehensive test plans and procedures for the software verification initiative.
  • Coordinate tasks for the verification team in collaboration with the verification and SIL manager, utilizing agile methodologies.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams, including engineers from various disciplines, to validate software requirements, architectures, and designs.
  • Create rapid prototypes to validate concepts and assess technical risks.
  • Develop and contribute to documentation for software testing architecture, design, verification plans, user manuals, and training resources.
  • Adhere to software development and testing protocols that comply with Blue Origin and customer standards to guarantee software safety and reliability.
  • Support frequent updates in preparation for pre-flight testing, mission validation exercises, and operational training events.
  • Construct and execute unit-level and system-level tests, validating through software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop simulations, while delivering robust test code.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Software Engineering or a related field.
  • Over 8 years of experience in software development.
  • Proficient in software development using Python.
  • Familiar with agile software development practices.
  • Experienced in the complete software engineering lifecycle, including system design, requirements architecture, software implementation, verification, integration, and release.
  • Demonstrated skills in software build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, and deployment.
  • Knowledgeable in Linux environments and basic Unix system administration.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong passion for space exploration and flight.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee or asylee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in developing software testing applications for aerospace safety-critical systems.
  • Experience in crafting and implementing software plans and procedures for aerospace operations.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft subsystems and their associated software.
  • Knowledge of compliance with safety-critical standards, such as DO-178 or NPR 7150.
  • Experience in fault-tolerant software design.
  • Understanding of space-based communication protocols like CCSDS.
  • Experience as an agile product owner leading a multidisciplinary team.
