POSITION SUMMARY:

The Extrusion Supervisor is accountable for the effective management of the extrusion production areas during the blue night shift. Typical working hours are from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., following a rotating 3/2/2 schedule.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee, inspire, and assess the performance of team leads and operators during the shift.
  • Supervise agglomeration processes and maintenance activities within the shift.
  • Ensure compliance with Balchem Corporation's policies and relevant regulations.
  • Educate operators on various machinery and processes, including cookers, dryers, flaking mills, extruders, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Uphold safety and security standards, taking appropriate actions when necessary, and report any unsafe conditions.
  • Track inventory levels and ingredient usage; ensure all documentation is completed accurately and promptly.
  • Monitor product quality to align with company standards; communicate any scheduling or quality deviations to the Extrusion Manager.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement while achieving operational goals.
  • Develop and manage the extrusion production team effectively.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures related to personnel, safety, and equipment maintenance.
  • Gain proficiency in production and safety protocols, including accident reporting and equipment operation.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with two to three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is essential; experience in food manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational, time management, documentation, and communication skills are necessary.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, including punctuality and reliability.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software, particularly Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), with a focus on quality and process orientation.
  • Ability to apply common sense and skills in fulfilling responsibilities and operating equipment in accordance with company standards.
  • Competence in reading and understanding instructions and correspondence, as well as writing simple communications.
  • Capability to present information effectively in small group settings and manage conflicts professionally.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and 5S organizational tools; Six Sigma training is a plus.
  • A mindset geared towards training and mentoring, with a strong emphasis on safety.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and support team members across all shifts.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, and ascend or descend stairs and ladders.
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate machinery and tools, as well as reach with hands and arms.
  • May need to lift and/or move items weighing up to 55 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This role is performed in a manufacturing environment.
  • Noise levels in the facility range from moderate to loud.
  • Exposure to machine noise and food dust is common.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and with various chemicals.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration and risk of electric shock.
  • Frequent use of lifts and working at heights for inspection and maintenance of machinery.
  • Production environment may include varying temperatures and moisture levels.
