Release of Information Specialist

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Release of Information Specialist to join our team at VRC Companies. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing medical records requests in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring accuracy and quality service to our healthcare clients.

Key Responsibilities- Process medical records requests in accordance with VRC and healthcare facility policies and procedures
- Access and retrieve medical records from electronic and physical repositories
- Validate requests and signed patient authorizations for compliance with HIPAA and other applicable federal and state statutes
- Classify request types correctly and log requests into ROI software
- Retrieve and upload requested portions of patient medical charts
- Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and avoid breaches of Protected Health Information (PHI)
- Check for accurate invoicing and adjust invoices as needed
- Release requests to valid requesting entities
- Reject requests for records that are not HIPAA-compliant or otherwise valid
- Document exceptions, communications, and other relevant information related to requests in ROI software
- Alert supervisor to any questionable or unusual requests or communications
- Alert supervisor to any discovered or suspected breaches immediately
- Answer requestor inquiries about requests in an informative, respectful, and efficient manner
- High school diploma (GED) required; degree preferred
- Prior experience with ROI fulfillment preferred
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated documentation and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain productivity and quality performance
- Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA preferred
- Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms preferred
- Prior experience with Windows environment and Microsoft Office products
- Displays strong interpersonal skills with team members, clients, and requestors
- Must have strong computer skills and Microsoft Office skills
- Prior experience with operations of equipment such as printers, computers, fax machines, scanners, and microfilm reader/printers, etc. preferred
- Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated, and able to stay focused on tasks for extended periods
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English; bilingual skills desirable
