Job Title: Patient Care Technician Surgical Services

Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Patient Care Technician to join our Surgical Services team. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing patient rooms for admissions, transfers, and post-operative patients.
  • Ensure patient rooms are clean and adequately stocked.
  • Use proper body mechanics when positioning, lifting, turning, and ambulating patients.
  • Apply and use appropriate equipment as needed.
  • Understand and implement measures to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Report any changes in patient condition or behavior to the LPN/Registered Nurse in a timely manner.
  • Assist with patient admissions, transports, transfers, and discharges, including care of personal property and clothing.
  • Ensure patient personal and oral hygiene needs are met daily and/or as needed.
  • Accurately take vital signs and record in patient record promptly.
  • Distribute water and record intake and output as indicated.
  • Obtain and label specimens accurately, maintaining precautions at all times.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and/or other procedures, including prep and clip vital sign taking and recording, assisting patient with bathing and/or voiding, and removing and securing dentures, jewelry, and other belongings.
  • Weigh patients as assigned, record weights, and alert RN to any weight gain/loss.
  • Make frequent patient rounds, repositioning for comfort and offering bathroom assistance.
  • Assist RN with post-mortem care, including labeling and securing patient valuables.
  • Provide patient care as directed by licensed nurse, including enemas, sitz baths, applying and removing ice bags, k-pads, binders, and/or pelvic/buck's traction, blood glucose monitoring, and simple dress changes.
Qualifications:
  • State of Florida Nursing Assistant Certification preferred.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • 1 year of experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma preferred.
