Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation and Maintenance: Prepare the operating room with all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies, ensuring a sterile and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Assisting Surgeons: Assist surgeons during procedures, passing instruments, and maintaining a clear and organized workspace.
  • Patient Care: Provide continuous surveillance and maintenance of the sterile field, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.
  • Inventory Management: Continuously account for the number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery, ensuring accurate inventory and minimizing waste.
  • Specimen Handling: Receive and deliver specimens for testing, maintaining accurate records and ensuring timely processing.
  • Wound Care: Assist with the application of wound dressings and securing of drainage systems, promoting optimal patient outcomes.
  • Visualization and Support: Provide visualization of the operative site using appropriate methods, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation, supporting the surgical team in achieving successful outcomes.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; higher education preferred.
  • Certifications: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required within 90 days of employment.
  • Skills and Attributes: Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work under minimal supervision, and strong communication skills.
Physical Demands:
  • Standing and Walking: Frequently required.
  • Sitting: Occasionally required.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently required, with occasional heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Pushing and Pulling: Frequently required.
