Overview: The Senior Outside Plant Engineer is responsible for the design and engineering of outside plant facilities to fulfill customer service requirements while adhering to industry specifications. This role includes the assessment and modification of existing outside plant infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Tasks:

  • Develops and stakes plans and specifications for customer service connections and outside plant cable systems, ensuring compliance with relevant specifications.
  • Designs and stakes plans for main line fiber projects, adhering to applicable standards.
  • Creates plans for subscriber loop electronics equipment sites, including feeder and distribution facilities.
  • Conducts research on cable fills, transmission design standards, and right-of-way considerations for projects.
  • Prepares detailed cost estimates and comprehensive work order documentation.
  • Coordinates the completion and transition of work orders with Field Operations and Network Operations teams.
  • Researches and prepares necessary permit drawings for various jurisdictions.
  • Inspects ongoing projects to ensure compliance with established specifications.
  • Completes weekly reports on construction progress.
  • Inspects finalized projects and reviews as-built documentation.
  • Conducts inspections of open trenches to verify compliance with depth requirements.
  • Performs final inspections of work completed by contractors.
  • Prepares required inspection and closure documentation for specific contracts.
  • Demonstrates punctuality and readiness to fulfill job responsibilities consistently.
  • Actively participates in the company's safety initiatives, adhering to all safety regulations.

Periodic Tasks:

  • Prepares weekly updates on project status.
  • Drafts contracts for assigned projects for contractor/vendor submission.
  • Researches information for Damage Reports and regulatory inquiries.
  • Engages with customers regarding service order requirements.
  • Collaborates with developers and government entities on zoning and subdivision matters.
  • Addresses customer complaints related to contractor activities.
  • Attends pre-construction meetings and conferences.
  • Assists in conducting cable acceptance tests and documenting results.

  • Understanding of relevant industry standards and design parameters.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • 5-10 years of experience in a relevant engineering role.
