Role Summary:
The Veterinary Technician Specialist II will provide essential support to fourth-year veterinary students by instructing and assisting them in clinical settings. Responsibilities include maintaining clinical equipment and supplies, delivering high-quality veterinary technical assistance across various departments, including small animal medicine, surgery, equine medicine, and food animal medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the instruction of veterinary students during their clinical rotations.
- Maintain inventory of clinical supplies and equipment.
- Provide technical assistance in multiple veterinary clinics and departments.
- Perform additional tasks as required to support the veterinary team.
Working Conditions:
This position involves exposure to animal diseases, potential animal bites or scratches, and hazardous materials, including medical waste and pharmaceuticals. The role may require compliance with health protocols, including rabies vaccination.
Physical demands include the ability to lift animals weighing 50 pounds or more.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or GED with two years of relevant experience; or
- Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited program with two years of relevant experience; or
- Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or a related field; or
- DVM degree or equivalent.
Experience in animal restraint, administering injections, and catheter placement is essential. Familiarity with veterinary equipment and technology is required.
Preferred:
- Five years of experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a relevant specialty.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) credentials.
