Industrial Blaster Technician

Job Summary:

The Blaster's primary responsibilities include performing blasting operations on items according to blueprints, setting up and operating manual blast booths.

This position also involves blast media change overs and blast booth cleaning operations. Key duties include:

1. Claiming jobs and entering accurate data into job tracking and quality software programs.
2. Accurately documenting all work and records.
3. Performing inventory tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
4. Completing traceability requirements, including tracking heat numbers and putting those numbers back onto part once finished.
5. Teamwork with mentors to resolve problems.
6. Loading blast media into hoppers as required.
7. Hanging parts on carriers, carts or placing in blast booth in a manner to properly blast parts in accordance with drawing specifications or established practices.
8. Cleaning, maintaining, installing all hoses and blasting accessories.
9. Starting, testing and observing manual blasting operations to make sure they are working properly.
10. Adjusting blasting media and flow as required.
11. Ability to blast parts to the print and correct blast profile.
12. Proficiently using inspection tools, recording the measurements on inspection sheets and understanding the implications surface conditions have on part quality and function as required.
13. Installing replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, equipment and testing operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
14. Planning, laying out and performing safely and efficiently, blasting bench operations required to build, fit or repair parts for blast equipment.

Key Requirements:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Related experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Employee must be able to read, see, hear, and speak English. Position requires frequent physical exertion. Employee must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, and larger amounts with assistance.

Work Environment:

The work location includes a warehouse and fabrication shop setting, exposing the employee to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises. Position requires frequent exposure to outdoor elements (extreme heat, cold temperatures, snow, ice, etc.).

Other Requirements:

Employee must wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including gloves, blast suit, safety glasses, ear protection and steel-toed boots, and any other PPE as required in the production area. PPE will be provided by the company with the exception of steel-toed boots.
