Job Summary

Eastern Shore Community College, a member of the Virginia Community College System, seeks a Peer Tutor to provide individualized support to students in the English discipline. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of the subject matter and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one tutoring in English, utilizing effective study and learning strategies to promote independent learning.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Skills Advisor to develop and implement academic support plans for students.
  • Refer students to relevant campus resources as needed and maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions.
  • Engage with students to encourage academic success and provide guidance on developing a systemic approach to studying.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in the English discipline with a strong academic record.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Capacity to adapt tutoring methods to meet various learning styles.
  • Knowledge of effective study and learning strategies to maximize student potential.
Working Conditions

The Peer Tutor will work in a dynamic and supportive environment, collaborating with staff and students to promote academic success. This is a non-supervisory role with no required travel or operation of a state vehicle.
