Job Summary

The Mental Health Specialist is a key member of the multidisciplinary psychiatric patient treatment team at Boston Medical Center. This role requires a strong understanding of clinical care responsibilities and the ability to implement department policies, procedures, and standards under the supervision of a psychiatric registered nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend shift report and review patient data to determine patient status
  • Implement treatment plans and behavior management plans to achieve patient goals
  • Meet with patients to review daily schedules and discuss mental status, behavior, and progress towards treatment goals
  • Report pertinent information to charge RN, including level of safety, changes in behavior, and physical complaints
  • Document patient activities, behavior, and mental status each shift
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or HS Diploma/GED and 2 years experience in mental health/related field
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Required
  • Patient care skills acquired through one year of previous direct patient care experience preferred
Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrated skill in developing helpful relationships with patients, families, and staff
  • Ability to use a variety of medical equipment necessary in the delivery of quality patient care
  • Knowledge of growth and development, and ability to provide age-appropriate communication
