**Job Summary**

The Behavioral Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and healing environment for pediatric patients and their families. This individual will assist the nursing staff in responding to patient needs, contributing to efficient unit operations, and observing patients as delegated by and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

**Responsibilities**

• Monitor and maintain physical safety of patients through active involvement, observation, and intervention under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse.
• Participate in unit-specific routines as assigned to support the care of patients, including patient accountability rounds, patient searches on admission, listing and storing belongings, 1:1 observation of patient, setting up and monitoring meals, vital signs and weights, monitoring visiting hours, communicating needed information to patients, family members, and fellow staff, and performing other responsibilities as needed.
• Respond and participate in trained de-escalation techniques and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or Basic Life Support situations.
• Transport patients, equipment, and supplies.
• Document according to unit/policy requirements.
• Conduct environmental safety checks, observing for broken equipment, security of windows, door locks, etc.

**Qualifications**

• Education/Experience: Two year college equivalent in human services field or 2-3 years of experience with direct patient care in a behavioral health setting.
• Certification: Basic Life Support certification.
• Preferred: Associate's degree and experience within mental health setting.
