Role Overview: As a Radiation Therapy Specialist, you will administer radiation therapy treatments to oncology patients. Your responsibilities will include assessment, intervention, calculations, documentation, and patient education.
Supervision and Evaluation: Your work will be performed under the general supervision of a radiation therapy supervisor, and your performance will be evaluated based on adherence to established standards and procedures.
Treatment Administration: You will administer radiation therapy in accordance with physician's directives and the patient's individualized treatment plan. This includes entering data into the computer system, adjusting equipment controls, and regulating dosage.
Record Maintenance: You will maintain patient and billing records, reports, and files in compliance with departmental policies and procedures, ensuring accurate documentation of radiation dosages, equipment settings, and patient information.
Therapy Techniques: You will perform both routine and complex radiation therapy treatments, such as total body irradiation, stereotactic radiosurgery, and low and high brachytherapy, following established practices and standards.
Preparation and Safety: Your role will involve preparing equipment and treatment rooms for patients, utilizing appropriate protective equipment and procedures to ensure the safety of patients, yourself, and others. You will also conduct quality assurance procedures in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
Clinical Instruction: You will provide on-the-job clinical instruction and evaluation for student radiation therapists, contributing to their professional development.
Qualifications: Candidates must have graduated from a Radiation Therapy Technologist program accredited by the Council of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA). Certification in Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required, or candidates must be Board Eligible (with certification to be obtained within one year of hire). No prior experience is necessary.
