The Avera Behavioral Health Adolescent & Child Units offer a structured and therapeutic environment tailored for young patients to develop coping strategies and achieve personal goals.
This Role is Ideal for Nurses Who:
- Enjoy working with children aged 5 to 12 and adolescents aged 13 to 17, along with their families.
- Are committed to assisting patients facing challenges such as Depression, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, and other behavioral issues.

Position Highlights:
- Cross-training opportunities in both the Adolescent and Child Programs.
- The adolescent program consists of 40 units.
- The child unit accommodates 14 beds.
- Engage with over 70 colleagues.
- Make a significant impact on the lives of children and adolescents.
- Participate in a self-scheduling program.
Student Loan Repayment: This RN position qualifies for Avera's Student Loan Repayment Program, which assists in paying off educational loans. Avera contributes an additional $167 monthly (up to $10,000) to help reduce your principal balance.
Career Advancement: Opportunities are available for professional growth beyond licensure, including national certification.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is highly preferred.
- A Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
- Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in South Dakota or meet multi-state licensure requirements.
- Specialty certification is preferred.
- Completion of life-saving education specific to the specialty area is strongly encouraged.
- Membership in a professional nursing organization is encouraged.
Work Schedule:
- Hours: Various Shifts
Compensation:
The hourly wage for this position is competitive, with actual rates based on experience.
- Base pay: $46.50 per hour
- Shift differentials: $3 for hours worked between 7 PM and 7 AM, $2 on weekends, and $5 for weekend nights.
