Job Overview
The Head of Software Engineering is responsible for establishing guidelines and protocols that ensure the delivery of high-quality digital software products. This role involves directing and supervising the software engineering department in the development, release, and maintenance of software applications for Georgia IT Inc. The position requires the creation of functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function, alongside the development of budgets, policies, and procedures to support operational needs. A profound understanding of the managed sub-function and a solid grasp of the overall departmental function is essential.
Foster a culture that prioritizes the development of high-quality software solutions for our consumers, reinforcing our status as a leader in the technology sector.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Proven experience in launching high-performance, scalable consumer-facing mobile and web applications.
• Lead teams of software developers and technical leads across various levels of seniority.
• Oversee software resource strategy and planning, including building strategic partnerships with external collaborators.
• Implement effective employee performance management through goal setting, constructive feedback, and coaching.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and business units to translate business requirements into high-quality software implementations.
• Work alongside project managers, product owners, and technical leads to influence project scope and priorities.
• Maintain strong technical knowledge of mobile and cloud technologies.
• Author and revise internal and external policies and procedures.
• Manage vendor relationships to maximize value.
• Ensure a comprehensive understanding of long-term business goals and strategies, aligning designs accordingly.
• Act as a mentor and coach to technical delivery personnel.
• Inspire and motivate development teams to deliver innovative solutions with a sense of urgency.
• Promote knowledge sharing across product development teams.
• Take a leadership role in ensuring timely, high-quality product delivery throughout the application lifecycle.
• Cultivate a culture of design excellence, maturity, quality, collaboration, planning, and responsiveness within the software development team.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing large-scale digital software teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong people management skills with a proven track record in recruiting, developing, and motivating high-performing engineering teams.
• In-depth understanding of mobile and cloud-based development methodologies and modern design patterns.
• Proficient in software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies such as Agile and Test-driven development.
• Over four (4) years of engineering leadership experience managing multiple teams and/or locations.
• Experience in the Medical Devices industry is a plus.
• Ability to work independently while supervising a diverse team.
• Familiarity with Agile software development practices.
• Demonstrated initiative and strong technical acumen.
• Ability to coach and mentor IT staff to function as a cohesive and effective team.
• Expertise in mobile and cloud development technologies, with strong technical skills and the ability to manage and develop teams for large systems.
