Position Overview

The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for reporting to the Assistant Facilities Engineer. Key responsibilities include the installation, upkeep, and repair of all refrigeration, heating, air-conditioning, and air-handling systems utilized across the campus.

Core Responsibilities

  • Installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of both domestic and commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.

This includes heating, cold storage, air-handling, and pneumatic systems.

  • Calibration and servicing of automatic controls, both electrical and pneumatic.
  • Conducting minor repairs on motors.
  • Overhauling compressors, pumps, fans, condensers, chillers, gauges, recorders, hot water boilers, and other auxiliary equipment related to refrigeration, air-handling, air-conditioning, and heating.

Additional Duties

  • Performing minor welding repairs, gas and electric brazing, cutting, and silver soldering.
  • Executing other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess the necessary licensure and a minimum of three (3) years of experience as an HVAC Mechanic or equivalent experience. Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of air-conditioning and refrigeration, control systems, heating systems, gauges, and recording equipment is essential. A foundational understanding of electricity and its application in air-conditioning, air-handling, and refrigeration systems is required. The ability to interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, manufacturer specifications, and schematics is also necessary.

Work Environment

This role necessitates the ability to work in various physical positions, including stooping, bending, kneeling, standing, and stretching for extended periods. Candidates must be capable of working from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and should possess the physical strength to lift, carry, and position equipment. A valid driver's license is mandatory. This position is subject to a pre-employment physical examination and background checks. Certain requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities. The anticipated work schedule is Tuesday to Saturday, from 11 am to 7 pm, constituting a full-time position with competitive benefits and a starting wage of $32.73 plus a $0.85 shift differential.
