Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at the Truman VA Medical Center. As a Registered Nurse in our Outpatient Mental Health department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the overall success of our team.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age-specific components.
  • Provide patient-centered and recovery-oriented care, maintaining self-awareness while caring for patients living with mental health conditions.
  • Facilitate care coordination, linking with inpatient mental health units to ensure continuity of care.
  • Develop and facilitate nurse-led psychoeducational groups.
  • Use therapeutic communication techniques, practice de-escalation techniques, and provide education to patients and their families.
  • Document nursing triage assessments, risk screens, measurement-based care tools, clinical reminders, and patient plans of care according to facility policy.
Requirements
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • One year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum one year in behavioral health/psychiatric nursing.
Working Conditions

This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
