Job Title: Controls Technician

Join the Brigham and Women's Hospital team as a Controls Technician, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the hospital's Building Management Systems (BMS) and associated controls equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adjust BMS programming to optimize patient and staff comfort and energy efficiency.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of BMS systems.
  • Trend and proactively monitor critical loads and alarm priorities.
  • Develop and implement lead/lag, default, and failure mode programming.
  • Field verify proper operation of all equipment being controlled and/or monitored.
  • Develop maintenance job plans for specific equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems.
  • Implement and manage primary and secondary critical alarm monitoring and dispatching.
  • Assist peers with demand work orders and alarm responses via control systems.
  • Work closely with departments and consultants to develop and implement energy optimization and alarm prioritization plans.
  • Administer contracts and oversee supporting contractors and vendors.
Requirements:
  • Vocational School four-year program graduate or an associate degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning, or a similar field.
  • Experience in the building controls industry, preferably in a Medical Center environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of physics of mechanical systems and associated media of air and water.
  • Control system skill sets to include installation, repairs, troubleshooting, programming, data trending, energy management, control devices, and computer hardware/software.
  • Massachusetts Licensed Electrician, Massachusetts Licensed Refrigeration Mechanic, or Certified Plant Engineer preferred.
Working Conditions:

May be required to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.

Conditions include working inside or outside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, and working protracted or irregular hours.

The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.

Incumbents within this position may be required to assist or find appropriate assistance to make accommodations for disabled individuals in order to ensure access to the Medical Center's services.
