Job Summary

The Lead Battery Management System (BMS) Software/Firmware Engineer will serve as a key member of our team, responsible for architecting and developing the BMS software and firmware for our Energy Storage Systems (ESS). This role will oversee the development of high-level and detailed-level RTOS-based BMS software and firmware architecture, as well as define software and firmware dependencies internal to BMS and at aircraft system level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage the BMS ESS software/firmware team
  • Develop high-level and detailed-level RTOS-based BMS software and firmware architecture
  • Define software and firmware dependencies internal to BMS and at aircraft system level
  • Develop detailed software and firmware design for distributed and redundant BMS systems with self-test and discrimination capabilities compliant to DO178 standard
  • Develop and implement simple battery management algorithms
  • Develop robust communication interfaces in line with aircraft system requirements
  • Participate in architectural discussions with aircraft controls team & power train teams and drive optimal decisions for software and firmware architectures
  • Responsible for the tool selection, development, and implementation of a robust software and firmware development and build environment, verification, and rigorous follow-up
  • Establish high-quality design/code review processes and alignment
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering with a focus on embedded system development for real-time applications required; Master's or PhD degree preferred
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of real-time, safety-critical software and firmware development experience with resource-constrained microcontrollers and in software and firmware development in BMS preferably for high-voltage large-format batteries (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this role)
  • Proven experience in software and firmware architecture development and production-level software and firmware development for BMS
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing software and firmware development and verification processes for real-time systems
  • Expert in real-time embedded system requirement gathering, architectural development
  • Excellent programming skills in C and C++ and scripting skills
  • Understanding of DO-178C compliance for functionally safe software development process
  • Experience in development of simple algorithms for battery SOC estimation and the like
  • Significant experience in implementing DSP algorithms in RTOS environment
  • Excellent skills in communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking
  • Excellent skills required in technical communication, and reliance on data for issue resolution and decision-making
  • Excellent organizational skills, team-oriented thinking, and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite specifically for data analysis, document creation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Base Pay and Benefits
