Unit Information

Department: Medical Surgical | Tele/MedSurg Float

Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NALS

  • Bed Capacity: 25 (average patient census is between 2-10).
  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Common Patient Diagnoses: Respiratory issues, sepsis, post-operative care, diagnostic catheterization, CHF exacerbations, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes management.
Qualifications
  • Flexibility to work in both Emergency Department and Medical Surgical settings.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to learn.
  • Experience with titrating medications is required.
Work Environment
  • Charge Nurse: Takes a light assignment.
  • Nurse Aids: One CNA available for assistance.
  • Equipment: Nasal cannula, stable BiPAP; no ventilators.
  • Shift Scheduling: 12-hour shifts with a dedicated scheduler to accommodate requests.
  • Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Yes, as needed.
  • Floating Requirements: Yes, between Medical Surgical and Emergency Department.
  • Uniforms: Hospital-grade uniforms required.
Orientation

Department-specific orientation includes one day for paperwork and computer training, followed by two days of on-floor orientation.
