Job Summary

Heidelberg Materials is seeking a skilled Mobile Equipment Mechanic to join our team at our Thornton, Illinois facility. As a Mobile Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as performing repair and maintenance functions on our heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diesel and gasoline engine repairs
  • Diagnose and repair power train component issues
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic system problems
  • Repair and maintain truck air brake systems
  • Ability to repair suspension and steering systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems
  • Perform specialized component repairs, including hydraulic and mechanical drives
  • Ability to make minor repairs, including welding and cutting
  • Perform and track Scheduled Maintenance in accordance with Hanson's PM Program
  • Ability to perform road calls in a safe, fast, and professional manner when necessary

Requirements
  • Prefer high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of one year of experience repairing heavy equipment or vocational training
  • NYS Heavy Equipment Inspector's License or ability to obtain
  • Ability to write legibly to complete work orders and other required paperwork
  • Ability to read and comprehend maintenance manuals
  • Basic hand and air tools required to repair heavy duty trucks

Work Environment
  • Physical Requirements: sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping, squatting, repetitive motions, manipulative finger movements, use of wrists, use of feet, use of arms above and below shoulder, work extended periods of time in same position, perform duties in all climates, tolerate heights, lift and carry up to 75-100 lbs., work in confined spaces, capable of wearing respiratory and other personal protective equipment
