Position Overview:
As a Pharmacy Support Specialist, you will work under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist to assist in the preparation and distribution of medications within the healthcare facility.
Education Requirements:
A High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
Experience:
1-2 years of relevant experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid Maryland Pharmacy Technician License and CPhT Certification (unless currently enrolled as a Pharmacy Student), to be obtained within 180 days of employment.
Key Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient communication skills to interact effectively with all stakeholders.
- Moderate computer proficiency for entering prescription data.
- Ability to understand and interpret pharmaceutical terminology.
Responsibilities:
Medication Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation of prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Ensure accurate labeling of all medications, including lot numbers, expiration dates, and dosages.
- Prepare IV solutions and other sterile products as required.
Delivery and Transport:
- Responsible for delivering medications to designated areas within the facility.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of narcotics to nursing units.
Inventory Management:
- Assist in restocking and ordering pharmaceutical supplies.
- Manage the replenishment of automated dispensing machines and medication carts.
Clerical Support:
- Perform clerical tasks to support the pharmacy department, including data entry and phone management.
Professional Development:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and certifications.
- Participate in training and continuing education opportunities as required.
Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure efficient operations.
- Share knowledge gained from interdepartmental interactions to enhance team performance.
