Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at one of our Florida practices, Academic Alliance in Dermatology. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our dermatologists and other clinical staff.
Responsibilities- Escort patients to exam rooms and confirm their identity.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Organize patient flow and ensure efficient use of time.
- Prepare procedure trays, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
- Prepare and route pathology specimens to the correct lab based on patient insurance plans.
- Respond to patient questions in person and over the phone as instructed.
- Check to-do lists and nurse lines for updates and follow-ups.
- Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory equipment and instruments according to schedules.
- Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep accurate records.
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
- Order, sort, restock, and inventory all supplies.
- Document all medical instructions given to patients and review wound care with them when applicable.
- Administer anesthesia or injections for procedures as needed.
- Ensure timely handling of phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail.
- Triage patient problems effectively.
- Familiarity with and compliance with OSHA/HIPAA, infection control, and Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
- Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
- Experience administering injections.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.
- Knowledge of office financial policies.
- Basic computer skills and experience using EMRs.
- Able to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computers, faxes, copiers, scanners).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Fluent in English.
- Ability to function well in high-pressure and stressful environments.
- Ability to work effectively, cooperatively, and courteously with staff, patients, and visitors.
- Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to spell, sort, and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.
