Job Summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a highly skilled Plant Maintenance Supervisor to lead our maintenance teams in ensuring the efficient operation of our facilities. As a key member of our maintenance department, you will be responsible for directing maintenance crews, developing and implementing maintenance systems, and overseeing the maintenance of equipment and processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead maintenance teams in predictive and preventative maintenance, machine repair, and equipment installation.
  • Develop and implement maintenance systems, processes, and documentation to ensure efficient and high-performing manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate with production teams to schedule and accomplish equipment and facility repairs.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators for tracking and reporting maintenance performance.
  • Provide long-term solutions and day-to-day support to operating teams with troubleshooting, problem analysis, and equipment failures.
  • Train employees on proper work methods and safety procedures.
  • Ensure tasks are completed in accordance with USDA regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work performed and inventory.
  • Provide regular status reports to maintenance management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field and 2+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience acting as a lead, providing training, coaching, or mentoring to less experienced staff.
  • Advanced technical skills in ammonia refrigeration, high-pressure boiler, compressed air, mechanical, and electrical fields.
  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance systems, work order processes, preventive/predictive maintenance, TPM, inventory, and scheduling software.
  • Strong leadership skills, including conflict resolution, facilitation, change management, decision-making, empowerment, and delegation.
  • Able to lead problem-solving and troubleshooting efforts associated with high-level process issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good planning and priority-setting skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Office and plant setting with exposure to wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision includes close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
