Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Officer to join our team at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a Public Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining a secure and safe environment for our faculty, staff, patients, visitors, and property.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of public safety coordinators, including assigning tasks, observing performance, and providing feedback.
  • Recommend discipline and participate in the hiring process for public safety coordinators.
  • Evaluate public safety coordinators' performance, including quality and quantity of work, and schedule daily assignments.
  • Perform communications dispatch functions, including monitoring closed-circuit television cameras and assigning incident report numbers.
  • Monitor UCM Public Safety and University Police radio traffic and communicate with UCPD dispatch during emergencies or incidents.
  • Direct and coordinate the Public Safety response to calls for service and alarms.
  • Maintain radio contact with Public Safety personnel to ensure their safety.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Three to five years of experience in security or law enforcement.
  • Ability to complete IAHSS Certification Training Program within 90 days of employment.
  • Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).
  • Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree.
  • At least one year of experience in healthcare.
