Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Aquatics Operations to lead our aquatics department at Great Wolf Lodge. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of aquatics operations, including planning, budgeting, staffing, and payroll.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive plans that support organizational objectives, effectively allocating resources and time across groups or departments.
  • Financial Management: Manage fiscal and budgetary aspects of aquatic operations, including creating and maintaining departmental budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate resort activities and ensure seamless operations.
  • Guest Experience: Monitor and respond to guest comments, addressing operational resolutions and ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Investigations: Conduct investigative actions with guests, where necessary, for guest service and liability claims.
  • Scheduling: Develop and implement schedules for the waterpark operation, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate team member performance, including compensation changes.
  • Training and Development: Plan and implement staff training and development programs within the department.
  • Manager-On-Duty: Participate in the Manager-On-Duty (MOD) program and execute duties as required.
  • Maintenance and Safety: Monitor mechanical equipment and report any problems to Engineering for repair.
  • Leadership: Serve on the resort Executive Committee to represent the interests of the waterpark and safety programs.
  • Policies and Procedures: Enforce policies and procedures, maintaining a working knowledge of general and departmental safety procedures.
  • Risk Management: Oversee Risk Management and Safety programs.
Requirements:
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical Skills: Experience creating and maintaining documents with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience managing large aquatics departments with various waterpark attractions.
  • Certifications: Ellis & Associates (E&A) International Lifeguard Training Program license, E&A Basic Leadership Training License, E&A Instructor License, and Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) license.
  • Soft Skills: Experience in First Aid, CPR, and AED, and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.

  • Education: College degree.
  • Medical Background: Emergency Medical Technician or other medical background.
  • Conflict Resolution: Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve conflict.
  • Analysis and Planning: Committed to comprehensive and in-depth analysis, planning, and implementation of every work effort.
  • Public Relations: Projects a positive public relations image to team members and guests.
  • Leadership: Ability to motivate diverse groups to achieve extraordinary goals and overcome challenges.
Physical Requirements:
  • Swimming Ability: Swim 50 yards in 4 ft. of water and retrieve a 10 lb brick from the bottom of the pool.
  • Physical Demands: Sit or stand for extended periods of time, extended exposure to hot and humid environments, and climb multiple flights of stairs.
