The Tufting Creeler plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of tufting machines by supplying yarn from creels or beams. This position requires attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Creel yarn packages on all creel feed machines, following direction from leadership.
- Splice or tie in yarn packages or beam sets in a safe and timely manner.
- Run Bitwinder as needed, if applicable.
- Verify machine thread-up and run knots through after beam change, if applicable.
- Pull yarn off of beams and remove beam weights at the end of each shop order, if applicable.
- Verify beam placement in beam rack, if applicable.
- Use beam splicer to creel a new beam set after beam change, if applicable.
- Verify splices and knots for durability.
- Remove empty tubes from the creel and place them in designated areas.
- Remove old lot packages from the creel and place them in designated boxes or prepare them for pack-out.
- Assist tufting machine operators with backing changes.
- Relieve tufting machine operators as necessary.
- Fix pull tights and ends out in the creel and potentially blow yarn back to the machine through the creel tube using an air nozzle.
- Check all beamed and creeled yarn for proper lot number and color number.
- Apply beam weights after beam change, if applicable.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
- Standing is required for 80% of the time, for 30 to 45 minutes at a time.
- Pulling of yarn from beams is required for 20% of the shift, if applicable.
- Reaching is required for yarn for 50 to 60% of the shift.
- Stooping is required for 10% of the shift, for 30-second intervals.
- Bending is required to creel for 10 to 20% of the time, and lifting cones for 30% of the time.
- Must be able to use an air splicer for 30% of the shift.
- Must be able to use snips and/or scissors for 5% of the shift.
- Must be able to distinguish colors and shade differences.
- Lifting is required of cones of yarn weighing 10 to 12 lbs throughout the shift.
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, and kneel.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic operations.
- Computer knowledge or data entry skills are necessary, but training will be provided.
- Overtime may be required on occasion.
- All accidents must be reported immediately.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Safety equipment must be worn as required.
- Report any quality, safety, or potential problems encountered while performing the job to management.
- Responsible for the quality and safety of their own output.
