Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Utility Maintenance Technician to join our team at Veolia North America. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our water distribution system, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of water to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Excavate, repair, replace, and maintain all aspects of our water distribution system, including mains, services, and fire hydrants.
  • Operate a backhoe and other heavy equipment to perform tasks such as backfilling, grading, and excavating.
  • Apply for and secure a CDL license within six months of hire.
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment, including pipe wrenches, pipe saws, tubing cutters, valve keys, tapping machines, and line crimpers, to accomplish installations and repairs.
  • Learn all aspects of service and main repair and installation, including replacing and installing fire hydrants, main valves, sleeves, clamps, and domestic, commercial, and fire line services.
  • Repair and install domestic, commercial, and fire line services, and use related fittings and special tools involved in completing the above tasks.
  • Work in leak repair situations where water is running and operate pumps, jackhammers, and generators to accomplish timely repairs.
  • Read maps and locate valves (gate boxes and curb boxes) to perform shutdowns as needed on mains as well as services.
  • Use locating devices to locate service lines and mains as well as curb boxes and gate boxes.
  • Learn job set-ups and oversee that the work being done is done in a safe, time-effective, and quality manner.
  • Communicate effectively with supervision and work in accordance with their input and instructions.
  • Perform flow tests, leak surveys, utility locates, and water quality tests.
  • Perform valve maintenance.
  • Maintain good customer relations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Backhoe operating experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of the operation of a water distribution system.
  • Basic plumbing, mechanical, and excavation knowledge skills are desired.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Good physical condition to be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to hand excavate and perform the various lifting, bending, and carrying necessary in this position.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and Company safety policies.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and fellow employees.
  • Perform job responsibilities with minimal supervision in a timely manner.
  • Possess strong technological skills such as using computers, iPad, and cell phones.
  • Possess strong written, verbal, and radio communication skills.
