We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fence Construction Foreman to join our team at American Fence Company, Inc.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the installation of permanent fences, managing a fence crew, and providing exceptional customer service. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and independent individual to take on a leadership role and contribute to the success of our company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify that all necessary materials and tools are loaded on the truck before arriving at the job site.
  • Make decisions on how to conduct fence installations, including determining the best placement for terminations based on boundaries.
  • Discuss fencing needs with customers and clarify specifications as needed.
  • Prepare the site area for installation, removing any obstacles from the designated fence path.
  • Measure and lay out fence lines, marking posthole positions according to instructions, shop drawings, or specifications.
  • Align posts, using lines or sighting, and verify vertical alignment using plumb bobs or spirit levels.
  • Locate and understand markings for underground utility safety before digging.
  • Dig postholes using skid steer, dandy digger, jackhammer, core drill, or manual post hole diggers.
  • Set posts in upright positions in postholes.
  • Mix and pour concrete around post bases or tamp soil into postholes to embed posts.
  • Assemble and install custom ornamental iron fences and gates on customer property.
  • Nail top and bottom rails to fence posts or insert them into slots on posts.
  • Stretch wire, wire mesh, or chain link fencing between posts and attach fencing to frames.
  • Attach fence rail supports to posts using hammers and pliers.
  • Assemble gates and fasten them into position using hand tools and a welder.
  • Complete top fence rails of metal fences by connecting tube sections using metal sleeves.
  • Insert metal tubing through rail supports.
  • Attach rails or tension wire along post bottoms to form fencing frames.
  • Assemble custom iron fence orders on site using hand and power tools.
  • Add to or change installation specifications based on customer input or environmental constraints.
  • Install privacy slats or panels as required per specifications.
  • Ensure site specifications are met by the crew and/or subcontractors.
  • Complete administrative tasks, such as collecting signatures, employee time sheets, and other paperwork.
  • Remove, load, transport, and dispose of old fence at the site as required.
  • Drive company trucks to customer sites and back to the branch, following DOT regulations.
  • Complete gate tags with gate specifications and submit them to the shop for gate fabrication.
  • Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, reach lifts, skid steers, and attachments for loading and unloading trucks, installing fences, or moving materials on company property or at job sites.
  • Inspect and complete safety checklists for equipment, power tools, and machinery before each use.
  • Follow company and government safety/health rules and regulations.
Requirements
  • 2 years of heavy construction experience required.
  • 1 year of experience as a supervisor or foreman.
  • Prior fencing experience preferred.
