Geotechnical Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at Geosyntec Consultants. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a key role in applying engineering skills to projects involving site characterization and remediation, earth retaining structures, landfill design and construction, dams and water containment structures, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and numerical analysis of stability and deformation.

Our ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering and at least 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with modeling/design tools such as AUTOCAD, Slide, and PLAXIS is preferred. Regular fieldwork and overnight travel are required.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting geotechnical and environmental field investigations, monitoring civil and environmental remediation construction projects, developing, installing, monitoring, and managing geotechnical instrumentation systems, and using traditional or computer-based technical tools to perform and review engineering calculations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct geotechnical and environmental field investigations
  • Monitor civil and environmental remediation construction projects
  • Develop, install, monitor, and manage geotechnical instrumentation systems
  • Use traditional or computer-based technical tools to perform and review engineering calculations
  • Support landfill and waste containment system design and permitting, environmental remediation, earthquake engineering, and offshore field investigation projects
  • Review and interpret geotechnical data such as boring logs and laboratory test results
  • Develop construction documents and prepare and review engineering reports
  • Write and review engineering reports
  • Support proposal preparation, manage projects and tasks, and support business and staff development efforts

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering
  • At least 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as AUTOCAD, Slide, and PLAXIS
  • Regular fieldwork and overnight travel
