Ophthalmic Technician

As an Ophthalmology Technician with Ephraim McDowell Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care under the guidance of our experienced Providers and Managers. Your primary responsibilities will include performing routine tests, documenting patient medical histories, and assisting with minor surgical procedures. You will also be expected to provide exceptional customer service, maintaining a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor at all times.

• Perform routine tests and procedures as directed by Providers and Managers
• Document patient medical histories and maintain accurate records
• Assist with minor surgical procedures under the supervision of Providers
• Provide exceptional customer service to patients and their families
• Work collaboratively with medical staff, management, and peers to achieve departmental goals

As an Ophthalmology Technician, you will work in a well-lighted, ventilated, and air-conditioned area. You may be exposed to unpleasant odors, sights, and sounds, and will be required to move or position 25 pounds independently. You will also be expected to work in a fast-paced environment, often with multiple priorities and deadlines.

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Successful completion of a JRCOMP-approved program for Ophthalmology Technicians
• Minimum of one year of satisfactory, full-time work experience under ophthalmologic supervision
• Knowledge of ocular diseases and systemic disease affecting the eye
• Knowledge of ultrasound and visual field machines
• Knowledge of basic eye care and hygienic methods and practices involving the treatment of the eye
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively
• Ability to act calmly and effectively in a busy and/or stressful situation

• CPR certification
• Knowledge of CPT & ICD-9 coding procedures
• Knowledge of medical terminology
