Research Microbiologist

About the Role:

RTI International is seeking a highly skilled Research Microbiologist to join our Center for Drug Discovery (CDD) team. As a Research Microbiologist, you will play a key role in our efforts to discover new antimicrobial therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research and development activities related to antimicrobial drug discovery, including grant and contract activities.
• Supervise and mentor junior scientists and serve as a technical area expert.
• Attract federal and commercial grants and contracts as a principal investigator.
• Support ongoing projects through collaborative research.
• Communicate research results through peer-reviewed publications and participation in scientific meetings.

Qualifications:

• PhD, MD, or DVM with postdoctoral experience in microbiology or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as principal investigator, study director, or similar role.
• Demonstrated experience or interest in drug discovery and development.
• Demonstrated ability to manage collaborations and build strong relationships with peers and clients.
• Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Expertise with Gram-positive or Gram-negative antimicrobial discovery.
