Schedule: Relief (Hours vary) 12-hour shifts; Days or Nights
Key Competencies:
- Comprehensive understanding of psychiatric conditions in adult demographics.
- Proven expertise in general and psychiatric nursing practices.
- Effective comprehension of adult client needs across intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical domains.
- Proficient in behavior management, crisis intervention, and techniques relevant to acute psychiatric patients, including non-violent crisis intervention.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with assigned personnel.
- Familiarity with instructional methods suitable for adult learners.
- Awareness of cultural diversity considerations.
Core Responsibilities:
- Conduct the admission process for clients, which includes Nursing Assessments, Medication Lists, EMR/MAR documentation, and adherence to physician's directives.
- Complete a nursing assessment form upon client admission.
- Monitor the medical, physical, mental, and behavioral conditions of clients.
- Review all referrals and psychiatric consultations, updating EMR and MAR accordingly.
- Follow up on laboratory and medical testing results.
- Transcribe and post all medication orders to the EMR/MAR system.
- Educate staff on medication usage and potential side effects.
- Provide training to clients, staff, or MAC workers as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with the Nurse Manager, CRNP, and physicians regarding client health status.
- Monitor clients for medication side effects and report findings to the Nurse Manager, CRNP, or physician.
- Administer medications and treatments as indicated, adhering to the Six Rights of Medication Administration.
- Supervise MAC workers as assigned.
- Perform medical monitoring of clients per Crisis Center protocols.
- Observe clients in designated areas, reporting any medical or psychiatric concerns to the Nurse Manager, CRNP, psychiatrist, and Clinical Manager.
- Provide emergency care as required (CPR, PRN medications), in accordance with IR policies and procedures.
- Exhibit the ability to identify crisis situations and implement de-escalation techniques.
- Fulfill on-call responsibilities as assigned.
- Uphold a professional code of ethics.
- Ensure compliance with safety, fire prevention, and other protocols by clients at all times.
- Implement all assigned duties in accordance with Indian Rivers Behavioral Health (IRBH) policies and procedures.
- Adhere to Department of Mental Health and Medicaid standards in all assigned duties.
- Maintain a clean driving record at all times, especially when transporting clients or conducting center-related business.
- Stay informed of current events by reviewing memos, emails, bulletin boards, and communication logs.
- Work independently and collaboratively to complete tasks accurately and timely with minimal supervision.
- Support the Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA, and Security Programs by ensuring job tasks are performed legally and ethically, identifying non-compliance, and notifying appropriate personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality of all client and organizational activities by restricting information sharing to a need-to-know basis and referring media inquiries to the Executive Director.
- Adhere to attendance and punctuality policies, allowing sufficient time for arrival and responsibilities.
- Comply with safety and health standards by maintaining current certifications and reporting infections and injuries as per policy.
- Identify opportunities for enhancing service quality within the department and organization.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current RN license to practice in the state of Alabama is required.
- Experience in a mental health environment is preferred.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology in psychiatric care is essential.
- Familiarity with psychopharmacology and psychotropic medications for adults is preferred.
- Valid Alabama driver's license and a safe driving record as per Indian Rivers' insurance policy are mandatory.
- Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English is required.
