We are seeking a highly skilled Perinatal Imaging Specialist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our Ultrasound Department, you will be responsible for performing comprehensive non-invasive and invasive procedures to demonstrate OB/GYN anatomy under investigation.
Key Responsibilities- Procedure Performance
- Provides physiologic assessment of OB/GYN vasculature and fetal well-being.
- Independently provides technically optimal, complete and accurate images for diagnosis of the high-risk OB/GYN patient.
- Combines clinical history while performing sonographic study to summarize findings of the study and documents information/action to the appropriate physician.
- Assists physicians during invasive procedures, including amniocentesis, sonohysterograms, endometrial biopsies, and chorionic villi sampling.
- Documentation and Communication
- Reviews patient history by clinical information available from charts and one-on-one verbal review of clinical history with patient.
- Summarizes findings by imaging technologist and enters them onto the Perinatal computer network, requiring advanced knowledge of computer hardware and software operation.
- Notifies the appropriate physician of summary findings.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance
- Reports any malfunctions to the manager and contacts the proper company for repairs if necessary.
- Performs start-up and shut-down procedures on all equipment.
- Operates all ultrasound equipment in a competent manner.
- Modifies technical factors as situations warrant.
- Ensures that images are labeled with patient identification properly.
- Performs problem-solving as situations warrant, including equipment malfunctions and physical limitations of equipment.
- Handles all equipment with care.
- Patient Care and Safety
- Responsible for the welfare and care of all patients directly under their control, including implementation of immobilization devices as necessary for patient safety and comfort.
- Introduces self and explains the exam to the patient.
- Reconfirms patient identification with two patient IDs and verifies the procedure requested.
- Uses scripting when required.
- Maintains positive customer relations, including proper phone etiquette.
- Displays a professional manner in relating to patients, physicians, family members, etc., at all times.
- Professional Development
- Attends continuing education seminars and stays current with current literature.
- Maintains professional accreditation in ARDMS and Nuchal Translucency certification.
- Attends departmental meetings.
- Maintains required CME credits for ARDMS.
- Participates in problem-solving to improve quality for the department.
- Maintains CPR certification.
- Provides directions and instruction to new staff, students, and staff in need of assistance.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Ensures a secure, safe patient and work environment by maintaining awareness of safety hazard labels, pathology specimens, complete laboratory requisitions, and deliveries to the appropriate laboratory.
- Cleans, prepares, and sanitizes aspiration handles and endocavity transducers for invasive procedures and endovaginal/translabial imaging according to manufacturer recommendations and established infection controls.
- Applies sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination to patients and instruments.
- Maintains adequate supplies (gel, film, syringes) in US rooms and notifies the manager if supplies are depleted.
- Technical Support
- Enters charges for completed procedures.
- Communicates with other departments to successfully schedule various exams for the patient.
- Assumes a lead position as necessary in the absence of the Lead Technologist and/or department supervisor.
- Interacts closely with the Ultrasound Team Lead and department supervisor to provide for smooth daily operation of the department.
- Attends regularly scheduled Ultrasound Department meetings and in-services.
- Assists in the orientation of Ultrasound Department personnel.
- Helps answer telephones, review physician's orders, as needed, or other related duties as requested by the department supervisor.
- Graduate of an AMA-approved school of ultrasound.
- 2 years of OB/GYN experience.
- Must become proficient in fetal echos within 1 year of hire date.
- Good skills in OB/GYN and pelvic ultrasound exams.
- Good skills in endovaginal scanning.
- Good skills in OB/GYN color duplex scanning.
- Good skills and knowledge of pathology in high-risk OB/GYN imaging.
- ARDMS-Registered in OB.
- Certified in performing Nuchal Translucency.
- CPR certification.
- Requires good judgment, reliability, responsibility, independent thought, and action.
- Extreme flexibility in working hours.
- Standing for long periods of time.
- Performing emergency procedures as required.
- Moving equipment to the bedside.
- Additional Information:
- Attend additional in-services to keep up with 30 hours of accreditation.
- Attend annual in-services on fire safety, infection control to meet department safety requirements.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
- For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when the patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
- Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
