- Hospital: Parkridge Medical Center
- Unit Name: 3West Cardiac
- Number of Beds: 30
- Patient Ratio: 5-6 : 1
- Staffing Structure: Includes unit clerk, 2-3 PCTs for day and night shifts, Nursing Supervisor, and Hospitalists
- Equipment Utilized: Welch Allyn vitals neuron, Novameter glucose, Philips Telemetry, and MP2's
- Documentation System: Meditech-HCA version
- Medication Management: WOW with med drawers, PyxisES dispensing system
- Scheduling: Equivalent of every other weekend (4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule)
- Floating Policy: May float to other M/S areas including general MS, Ortho, PCU, and M/S surgical with oncology as needed
- Engage in Bedside Rounding and Hourly Rounding with 5P's checked
- Communicate known patient needs to PCTs at the beginning and throughout shifts
- Utilize glass board for departmental focus areas and scrolling video kiosk for updates
- Requested Skill Set: Preferred knowledge in cardiac care
- Advanced Skills Required: Proficiency in managing Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips
- Procedures Performed: Chest Tube management, wound vac management, EKGs as needed
- Dress Code: RN - Navy scrubs; CNA/PCT - Ceil blue scrub set and jacket (optional). T-shirts in white, blue, grey, or black allowed underneath (no graphics). No artificial or gel nails permitted.
- Unit Guidelines: Documentation of telemetry application and rhythm strips in patient charts each shift. Maintain a NO PASS ZONE for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms.
- Awards and Recognition: The facility has received various accolades, including Daisy and Bee Awards, and iHEAL nominations.
- Additional Information: The unit benefits from Charge Nurses with significant experience on both day and night shifts, promoting shared governance within the unit and facility.
