Job Summary:

As a Bookseller at Barnes & Noble, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, creating a welcoming environment, and sharing your passion for books with customers. You will be the face of our store, ensuring that every customer has a positive experience. Your knowledge of books, combined with your enthusiasm and communication skills, will make you an asset to our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with customers, share your knowledge of books, and make recommendations to enhance their shopping experience.
  • Ensure the store is well-organized, visually appealing, and easy to navigate, with a focus on presentation, commerciality, and section detail.
  • Leverage key campaigns, such as Our Monthly Picks and pre-orders, to hand-sell and engage with customers.
  • Educate yourself on books and the industry, supporting the store with your knowledge to provide customers with a great experience.
  • Identify key titles and communicate with your team on opportunities to tailor the merchandise selection to reflect the community.
  • Keep the store neat and tidy, creating displays and ensuring it is always shoppable and inviting.
  • Assist with events and community outreach, demonstrating initiative and passion for books and people.
  • Protect company assets by adhering to all processes in controlling shrink, expense, and payroll.
  • Recognize and offer to help both customers and employees with urgency and care.
  • Model expected behaviors to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Possess a passion for books and a positive attitude.
  • Enjoy working with people and have excellent communication skills.
  • Be energized by working in an ever-changing environment and be willing to adapt to new situations.
  • Have a can-do attitude and be willing to take initiative.
  • Be able to clearly and respectfully communicate and express oneself.
