Purpose of Position
The primary objective of this role is to ensure the safety and security of court facilities, manage the transfer of detainees, and facilitate communication among the courts, correctional facilities, and related agencies. The Court Safety Officer will operate under the direct oversight of the Chief Deputy and Sheriff, with guidance provided through established operational protocols and Court Administration.
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as a security presence within the courthouse environment.
- Deliver necessary documentation such as jail rosters and reports to designated offices.
- Assist defendants by providing information regarding court processes, financial matters, and legal representation.
- Support various court services, including victim and social services.
- Guide the public with information about other county departments.
- Transport inmates to and from court, counseling sessions, and other appointments as required.
- Facilitate emergency commitments and necessary civil paper services.
- Maintain regular attendance as per departmental schedules.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- POST Certified Peace Officer with relevant training and experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
- In-depth understanding of modern law enforcement techniques.
- Proficient in criminal investigation and evidence handling.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective public interaction.
- Ability to produce clear and concise reports.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Sound judgment in all aspects of duty.
This position involves occasional physical exertion, including lifting up to 25 pounds. Regular tasks include sitting, speaking, and using hands for various activities. The role may also require standing, walking, and other physical movements. Standard vision and hearing capabilities are necessary for effective communication and observation. The work environment is typically moderately noisy, such as an office setting.
