Job Overview

Hillsborough County is seeking a highly skilled Firefighter to join our team. As a Firefighter, you will be responsible for responding to emergency calls, combating fires, and providing emergency medical care. You will work closely with our team to ensure the safety of our community and provide top-notch service.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls and perform search, rescue, and fire suppression operations
  • Operate hand and power tools to ventilate structures, position and climb ladders, and pull hoses from truck beds
  • Provide emergency medical care within established protocols
  • Assist paramedics in providing patient treatment and medical procedures
  • Conduct pre-fire planning of commercial buildings, hospitals, schools, and other facilities
  • Perform maintenance on department equipment, grounds, furnishings, or structures
  • Participate in station drills, allied emergency procedures, and actions refresher training

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Firefighter's Certificate of Compliance
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician certification
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver License

Working Conditions

Firefighters work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, often under hazardous conditions. They must be able to lift and carry weights up to 90 pounds, work in a subtropical climate under adverse weather conditions, and handle confidential information. Firefighters must also be able to make sound decisions quickly under stressful conditions.
