Environmental Services Operator I

This position is responsible for operating a truck along an assigned route to collect and transport solid waste and recycling. The successful candidate will ensure that all assigned routes are serviced by the end of the day and will direct the activities of the collection crew as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Operate Class A and Class B collection vehicles along an assigned route to collect trash, yard waste, and recycling.
- Ensure that all assigned routes are serviced by the end of the day.
- Direct the activities of the collection crew as needed and as directed by the supervisor.
- Pick up and dispose of dead animals.
- Ensure compliance with job safety principles and practices.
- Perform pre- and post-trip equipment inspections and make minor repairs and adjustments as needed; report maintenance or repair needs to supervisor.
- Ensure personal protective equipment, two-way radio, caution flags, forks, shovels, and other safety and work equipment are in proper order and located on collection vehicles.
- Perform manual labor as required in the daily collection of solid waste.
- Graduation from standard senior high school or GED, as recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- Six (6) months experience operating medium to heavy trucks or related automotive equipment preferred.
- Possession of a current/valid "Class A" or "Class B" Commercial Driver's License preferred.
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggle, or gloves.
