Job Summary:


The Arizona Game and Fish Department offers a paid internship opportunity for students and recent graduates in the field of wildlife science and management. This position provides hands-on experience in fisheries management techniques and aquatics best management practices.


Job Duties:


As a Creel Survey Intern, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive angler creel surveys at Alamo Lake, Arizona. This will involve interviewing anglers, identifying and measuring harvested fish, conducting counts of anglers at access points, and recording data. You will also assist in collecting water quality data, sport fish education, and fish surveys on various waters in the region.


Responsibilities:


• Conduct comprehensive angler creel surveys at Alamo Lake, Arizona
• Interview anglers and record data
• Identify and measure harvested fish
• Conduct counts of anglers at access points
• Assist in collecting water quality data
• Assist with sport fish education
• Assist with fish surveys on various waters in the region
• Work out of the Yuma Regional office and conduct fieldwork at Alamo Lake


What You Will Gain:


This internship provides opportunities to gain experience and knowledge in fisheries management techniques and aquatics best management practices. You will develop skills in native/non-native fish ID, proper data collection and organization, logistical planning of fieldwork, and maintenance/repair of field gear.


Requirements:


To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a curriculum leading towards a Bachelor's or higher level degree on a full time basis. You must also have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above and be able to pass a post-offer physical examination. A valid driver's license is also required.
