Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Polysomnographic Technologist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Polysomnographic Technologist, you will play a critical role in performing outpatient sleep disorder studies, preparing and testing patients, and implementing interventions to ensure patient safety and therapeutic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment for sleep studies, ensuring proper functioning and signal quality.
  • Select and apply monitoring electrodes, bands, thermistors, and other probes to patients' bodies, and prepare PAP mask fittings.
  • Follow sleep procedures to establish and document baseline values, including body position, movements, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates.
  • Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages and generating accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.
  • Implement interventions, including CPAP and BIPAP positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, and other therapeutic interventions.
  • Perform polysomnographic data acquisition, monitoring study-tracing quality, and eliminating artifacts.
  • Follow wake procedures to verify data integrity and complete the data collection process.
  • Schedule and discuss test processes with patients, ensuring their knowledge and answering questions.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days.
  • Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) registration issued by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) within 2 years, or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) certification issued by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) within 2 years, or Registered Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorders Specialty (RRT-SDS) certification issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 2 years.
  • Advanced training beyond High School, including completion of an accredited or approved program.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, and kneel throughout the workday. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from the floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. The role also requires the ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.

The incumbent will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards and must wear protective clothing as necessary.
